Pete Johnson's Tatuaje is one of the most iconic independent cigar brands in America, built on a foundation of bold Nicaraguan tobacco and a deep partnership with the Garcia family at My Father Cigars S.A. in Estelí. When Tatuaje Black Label launched in 2007 as a run of Private Reserve Corona Gordas in a ceramic jar, it was immediately recognized as something different, darker, bolder, and more aggressive than the standard Tatuaje lineup. A Nicaraguan Sun Grown Criollo wrapper replaced the usual leaf, delivering a richer, more intense smoking experience that earned the Black Label its own devoted following.

The line expanded with a Petite Lancero in 2011 and three more core sizes in 2016, when the current 20 count box packaging was also introduced. Now, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Tatuaje Black Label, two new sizes are being added to the core lineup permanently, both featuring a soft box press and a commemorative 20th anniversary band. They ship Summer 2026 and will sit alongside the existing Black Label core sizes going forward.

The Private Reserve Robusto is a 5 x 50 with a fuma head and soft box press, a compact, focused format that concentrates the Sun Grown Criollo wrapper's dark, earthy intensity into a shorter, more powerful smoke. The Private Reserve Torpedo is a 6⅞ x 52 soft box pressed torpedo that allows the blend to build gradually, delivering its full complexity across a longer, more evolved smoking experience.

Both vitolas wear the same Nicaraguan Sun Grown Criollo wrapper that defines the Black Label, expect notes of dark earth, espresso, leather, black pepper, and deep lingering richness from start to finish.
