A blend of Nicaraguan Criollo '98 and Corojo '99, and finished with a AAA Grade Corojo Rosado wrapper. Medium to full-bodied and very complex.
The Illusione Original Documents series — of which the 89 is the most widely available expression — is built around two of Dion Giolito's most prized Nicaraguan tobacco varietals: Criollo 98 and Corojo 99. Both are grown at Aganorsa Leaf's farms in Nicaragua and represent some of the most consistently high-quality puro tobaccos available to independent blenders. The AAA Grade Corojo Rosado wrapper is a pink-hued Nicaraguan Corojo leaf in its most exceptional form — only a small percentage of any harvest is graded at this level. The combination produces a medium-to-full-bodied Nicaraguan puro with exceptional complexity: layers of earth, dark spice, cedar, and a natural sweetness from the Corojo Rosado that evolves meaningfully from the first third to the last.
