The name Nelson Alfonso, owner of Selected Tobacco, has been tied to the cigar world long before the release of Byron cigars. Known for his design work with icons like Romeo y Julieta, Cohiba, Padrón, and Montecristo, Alfonso eventually returned to his own family’s heritage, reviving the Lord Byron brand nearly 150 years after its founding.

In 1848, cousins Jose and Eusebio Alfonso established a small factory in Santiago de Las Vegas, Havana, creating the Lord Byron cigar brand in honor of the famed English poet and passionate cigar enthusiast. Lord Byron became one of the earliest brands to feature a lithographed cigar band and quickly grew in popularity across the U.S. and U.K. Though the brand vanished during the Great Depression, Alfonso’s great-great-great-grandson brought it back in 1998 with the Byron 21st Century line, blending history, artistry, and premium tobacco.

The Byron 21st Century delivers a smooth and complex medium-bodied profile. Its Ecuadorian wrapper, Peruvian binder, and a filler of Nicaraguan and Peruvian tobaccos create a layered flavor journey. Expect notes of bread, cedar, nougat, fruit sweetness, and black pepper, all harmonizing into a refined and delicate finish.
