Tradecraft Cigars was founded by Rob Blumenthal, a blender whose passion for history, craftsmanship, and the intersection of the two drives every release the brand produces. Tradecraft cigars are made in partnership with Hostos Quesada at Tabacalera La iSLA in Santiago, Dominican Republic, and each release is named for a historical figure, discipline, or tradition that embodies the spirit of skill, precision, and mastery that defines the brand.

Shinobi is the fourth release in the Tradecraft core line, joining Gladius, Azorian, and Vitruvian. Of all the historical traditions Tradecraft has drawn from, none resonates more deeply with Blumenthal than the ancient Japanese. “There is perhaps no other culture we love more,” he said. “We are collectors of Japanese swords from the Kamakura and Muromachi era, collectors of Japanese tattoos, and appreciators of Japanese art.” The Shinobi, the secretive, highly trained operatives whose tactics were so codified they were recorded in historical documents like the Shoninki, are, in Blumenthal’s words, the inventors of Tradecraft itself.

The blend reflects that reverence for depth and discipline. A high priming Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper selected for its richness and oil content covers a Mexican San Andrés binder and an all viso filler of four distinct leaves: Nicaraguan Jalapa, Nicaraguan Condega, US Connecticut Broadleaf, and Dominican Olor. The exclusive use of viso priming leaf across all four filler tobaccos is a deliberate construction choice that delivers complexity, balance, and combustion consistency throughout the smoke.

Dark, sweet, and slow burning, Shinobi delivers notes of coffee, cinnamon, cocoa powder, and saffron, weaving through a steady sweetness that rewards the unhurried smoker with layers of rich smoke from the first draw to the last.
