Lure Cigars was founded by Lou Cross, a cigar enthusiast whose brand is built around a fishing theme, with each release named after and inspired by the people and places that matter most to him. Produced at La Tabacaria Cigars in Estelí, Nicaragua, Lure has earned a reputation for approachable, well constructed limited releases that tell a personal story with every band.

The Fat Matt is the newest limited edition from Lure, a follow up to the Nereus released earlier in 2026, and it was inspired by a very specific person: Matt, the father of Cross’ son’s fiancée, who catches Peacock Bass in the canals behind their South Florida home. A new cigar enthusiast and now part of the family, Matt has his own cigar. The peacock bass is used as the branding for this release, vivid, bold, and unmistakable.

“Since we already have a cigar called ‘The Fat Tony’, a 5 by 54 in the Corojo Oscuro line, it seemed fitting to name this release after him,” said Cross.

A 5 x 54 Robusto Grande with a silky Ecuadorian Sun Grown Habano wrapper over a Nicaraguan Estelí Ligero binder and a four leaf filler drawing from the finest growing regions in Honduras and Nicaragua. Medium full in body, with expected notes of cedar, earth, leather, and spice with a smooth, satisfying finish.
