El Mago Cigars was founded in 2022 by Nick Fusco as a tribute to his grandparents, Maria and Gonzalo Torre, who perished in the collapse of Champlain Towers South in Surfside, Florida. The name El Mago, Spanish for “the magician,” honors their memory, and every release carries the weight of that dedication. The cigars are produced at the MGE Cigars factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, one of the most respected rolling operations in the country.

The James Avenue line was inspired by the James Hotel in Miami Beach, a property that Nick Fusco’s grandfather purchased in 1989 and that remains a family landmark to this day. The hotel sits on James Ave. in Miami Beach, and the four blends in this line each reflect a distinct personality, inspired by the character and culture of the city that shaped this story.

The James Avenue Connecticut is the most refined expression of the four. A Connecticut seed wrapper from an undisclosed origin covers a Habano binder and Nicaraguan fillers in a 6 x 54 box pressed Toro, delivering a smooth, elegant smoke with notes of toasted almond, warm cream, cedar, and a gentle sweetness on the finish. Approachable, balanced, and exceptionally well constructed.
