Visual: Gorgeous wrapper leaf, perfect construction, no soft or hard spots. No visual imperfections
Cold Draw: 4/10. Full flavor, leather forward.Slight fruity note, followed by cream.
1/3: On first light the cigar produces wonderful amounts of thick white smoke, I would rate the draw at 4/10 still, but this is to be expected from a small ring gauge cigar. The cigar presents full bodied flavors, with typical AJ Fernandez fashion. Pepper, leather and a hint of a sweet chocolate notes.The burn line is perfect and razor sharp. Ash is strong. Stacking dimes. Half way through the first third, a woody finish presents itself, which compliments the leather, pepper, and sweet chocolate notes that are still present. The retro-hale is smooth, and clean, and brings the woody flavor forward.
2/3: Entering the second third there is very little transition in flavor, with the exception of increased notes of chocolate. The burn is still razor sharp, and clean. A quarter of the way through the second third the full body experience is growing. Pepper, and leather notes are forward now, with an extremely pleasant creamy finish, that almost coats the tongue. Smoke production is still fantastic, and the draw has improved, I would now rate it a 5 out of 10. The retro-hale is still smooth, and brings the creaminess forward.
Final Third: Cream bomb! The transition into the final third is my favorite transition of this cigar. Amazing thick creamy notes, and mouth feel. Pepper and leather is still there, but no longer primary. The chocolate note also opens up nicely, the woody note seems to take a back seat. The burn is still clean. The second band removes with no issue. The primary band was removed with ease, and the cream continues to explode. The cigar finishes with an explosion of chocolate and cream, accompanied by light smooth spice. A perfect desert, to a full bodied meal.
Final Thoughts: I might be slightly biased reviewing this cigar, however I think it is evident that we fully believe in and love the experiences that Viva La Vida Cigars deliver. Luxury Cigar Club is the exclusive retailer of the Viva La Vida Lancero. It is also no secret that I am a lancero lover. While lanceros are not for everyone I believe them to be a magnifying glass into the blend of a cigar. I did need to relight this cigar once, however, that is a result of the vitola, and not the blend or construction. If you are looking for a truly unique smoking experience, this is one that will impress every time.
